What is hypnotherapy?
If we break down the name, it is a combination of hypnosis and psychological techniques. These are intended to help you overcome problems and make positive changes to the way you think and behave.
It is a unique because it targets the primitive, subconscious part of the brain which is where all the fears and negativity exist. It combines relaxation and visualisation techniques to focus on how you want your life to be and help you to get there.
What is hypnosis then?
The best way to explain it is to give you an example of when you are in a similar state. Think about when you are driving and then you suddenly think to yourself, “I don’t remember the last couple of miles”. You are in a light “trance” state and this is just like being hypnotised.
In a therapy session, this light “trance” state is when your primitive brain is more open to positive suggestion. This makes it easier to leave problems behind and move towards your preferred future.
Who is in control when I am being hypnotised?
You are always in control. You can open your eyes at any time, and all the positive suggestions made during the session are based on what you have told me.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Yes. It is a total myth that some people cannot be hypnotised. Anyone can go into the light “trance” state like when you are driving and you don’t remember part o the journey, and so anyone can be hypnotised.
Can children have hypnotherapy?
Absolutely. I alter the approach so that it is more straightforward for children, but they respond extremely well. I have worked with children as young as 6 years old, and have worked at a local primary school helping pupils experiencing stress, anxiety, eating disorders and behavioural problems.
Is hypnosis safe?
Yes. There are no side effects whatsoever. You can drive straight after a session of hypnotherapy, and it will not affect you negatively, whether physically or mentally.
