Anxiety and Panic Attacks
Is anxiety taking over? Are you having panic attacks?
Life can seem overwhelming at times. There might be one aspect of it in particular that is causing you to worry. Perhaps your job is not going as well as you would like. Or your finances are a constant struggle. Or you have concerns about a family member, your relationship or your health.
Sometimes, there isn’t even a specific reason you can identify that has triggered the anxiety in the first place. It’s just there, and you don’t know when it is going to creep up on you, and you don’t know when it will go away. All you do know is that it feels unbearable and it’s making your life a misery.
It’s as if your brain has become fixated on your worries, and you can’t think straight any more. The worries go round and round, to the exclusion of everything else. This might interfere with your ability to function normally, making it difficult for you to carry out your day to day activities. Your work, family commitments, sport and even socializing with friends can be affected.
In terms of physical symptoms, anxiety can affect us in many different ways. We might start feeling sick at times, get stomach cramps or headaches, feel dizzy or strangely disassociated from things. In extreme cases, the anxiety becomes a full blown panic attack where you struggle to breathe, experience heart palpitations and you think you are seriously ill. You might call for an ambulance because you believe you are having a heart attack, but when you later go to hospital you are told that there is absolutely nothing wrong with your heart and all the vital signs are normal.

How can hypnotherapy get anxiety under control or stop panic attacks?
With severe anxiety and panic attacks, the primitive part of your brain goes into overdrive, seeing your problems as a threat to your survival. This causes high levels of adrenaline and the stress hormone cortisol to be pumped around your body in a constant and uncontrolled way. The presence of these chemicals will make you feel very uncomfortable both physically and emotionally. That is why you experience the symptoms that are making your life unhappy.
Hypnotherapy is a unique therapy because it goes right to the source of the problem. Using natural and pleasant relaxation, visualisation techniques and positive suggestion, it actually targets the subconscious brain and calms it down. You can start thinking rationally again and focus on finding solutions to things, rather than being overwhelmed and obsessed with the problems. Equally as importantly, you can get back to everything you need and want to do, including your work, family commitments and leisure activities. The uncomfortable physical and emotionally distressing symptoms reduce and fade away.
How does the process work?
The entire process is tailored specifically to you and focusses on bringing about the improvements you want to see. It works like this:
Getting in Touch
Call me directly or use a contact form to book an initial chat, where we can confirm whether hypnotherapy is right for you, and I can answer any preliminary questions. We can then book a first consultation.
First Meeting
I will be asking a lot of questions about you and the background relevant to your concerns. Everything discussed is confidential. We agree how future sessions will be structured.
Regular Sessions
In each session we will combine talking therapy with hypnosis to work on the specific issues that you seek to overcome. I use a variety of relaxation and visualisation techniques to achieve the changes you want. The process is complete when those positive changes are achieved. You leave the process feeling happier, calmer and in control.
