Insomnia

Can’t get to sleep, interrupted sleep, night terrors and sleep walking

The quality of our sleep is the clearest and most obvious indicator of our wellbeing. If we struggle to get to sleep, wake up in the middle of the night, can’t get back to sleep for hours, suffer from terrifying nightmares or sleep walk, then the fact of the matter is that our subconscious brain is hyperactive.

In other words, there is something fundamentally “not right” psychologically, which needs to be addressed. Many of my clients, before they get to me, have gone to their GPs with such problems and been given sleeping tablets and/or anti-depressants. This is largely pointless and counterproductive. No amount of medication will get the subconscious brain to calm down, which is what needs to happen if we are to attain the holy grail of a good night’s sleep.

If you are suffering from sleep disturbance in some shape or form, it is my job as a psychotherapist & hypnotherapist to help you understand why and what you can do about it. The good news is that there is a tremendous amount that can be done to significantly improve the situation. The slightly less good news is that hypnotherapy is not a magic bullet, and so, having identified with you what the underlying causes might be, you will only get the very best out of the therapy I can offer if you are prepared to make some changes in your life. Some of these changes may be easy to implement – such as playing my Relaxation CD on a regular basis close to bedtime. Other changes may be more fundamental – for example, looking at different ways of working, taking more exercise, or drinking less alcohol.

But the really great news is that my therapy has a high success rate. I have clients who were suffering from extreme nightmares most of their lives, who are now getting a good night’s sleep for the first time in decades.

Equally, I am committed to helping all my clients with sleep disturbances achieve good quality sleep without medication. It is neither necessary nor desirable to go down this road, and I feel very strongly that many GPs are cavalier about prescribing medication in these circumstances. They are highly addictive, and they never enable you to understand the root cause and take appropriate action.

So if you would like to try an approach which is natural, effective, and has no side effects whatsoever, what are you waiting for?
